RAID Array Repair and Recovery

If your RAID has failed, or has gone offline, please do not swap out hard drives to attempt to recover or rebuild the array. As the RAID drives are 'mixed' up, the potential to overwrite the stripe or data on the hard drives makes a successful recovery difficult.

There are many issues that can cause a RAID Array to fail or RAID Container to go 'offline'. These include:

  • Adding incompatible hard drives to the RAID array.
  • Hardware conflicts with the hard drive and RAID server.
  • Software corruption to the operating system.
  • A virus infection, software or operating system upgrade.
  • The RAID controller fails or the configuration has recently changed.
  • Two or more hard drives fail or go offline in the RAID Array.
  • The RAID Server crashes and won't remount the array or volume(s).
  • The RAID configuration becomes corrupt or damaged.
